Amateur Radio Station K4FRC

Paducah, Kentucky

Hello, I'm Frank Carvell and I've been very fortunate to have had two completely fulfilling careers: commercial radio and teaching/coaching in public education. After 33 years I retired from the morning radio team of Frank and John on WKYX in Paducah, Kentucky and retired as a middle school and high school teacher of American History and Civil War Studies and high school football coach. My broadcasting career also included station ownership of KAOL AM & FM in Carrollton, Misouri and a two year stint at WDXR television, Channel 29 in Paducah, Kentucky. For many years I held a First Class Radiotelephone license but refused to covert it to the worthless General Radiotelephone certificate following the change in regulations.

I have authored five very minor books on the American Civil War, all of which with one exception,Confederate regimental studies about soldiers from Western Kentucky and Northwestern Tennessee. The non-Confederate book is a duel regimental study of the 8th Wisconsin Infantry and the 3rd U. S. Colored Cavalry. Currently I'm doing research on the Headquarters Company, 3rd Battalion, 24th Marines, 4th Marine Division and their actions during WWII on Kwajelein, Saipan, Tinian and Iwo Jima. I enjoy cooking, and collecting paintings by Kentucky artists: Olive Holbert Chaffee and T. J. Willison.

I'm at home in the fall and winter in Western Kentucky and the spring and summer in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire with my wife Sharon and our four Golden Retrievers: Harvey, Molly, Bailey and Lucy.

My equipment consists of Kenwood TS-870's, AL-82 and QRO 2500DX amplifiers, Heil microphones and headsets and W2IHY 8 band eq's and EQPlus', full dipole antennas for 40, 80 and 160 meters and a Force 12 C19XR for 10, 15 and 20 meters. My vintage stations include a Hallicrafters HT-37, SX-111 and HT-41, Viking Ranger with a Hammarlund HQ-110A and a Heathkit DX-100 with a Hammarlund HQ-170.

I can be found on "AM" at 3.725 each morning at 3:15 am cdt with The "Boiled Owls" group and each morning at 8:30 am est/7:30 am cst on 3810 for the weekday edition of the Kentucky Phone Net. Evenings from 7:00 pm est/6:00 pm cst I'm on on 3816 for the evening edition of the Kentucky Phone Net. The remainder of my broadcast day I can be found on 15m standing by on 21.350.
